Melasma

Melasma is a skin condition characterised by uneven brown to grey-brown patches of varying size and intensity. It most commonly appears on the forehead, cheeks, nose, upper lip, and chin, and is typically distributed symmetrically on both sides of the face.
The patches may be clearly defined or gradually blend into one another, resulting in an uneven skin tone and a loss of the skin’s natural radiance. In some people, they remain subtle and barely noticeable, while in others they become darker and more visible, significantly affecting the overall appearance of the skin.

Reasons

Melasma results from the excessive production of melanin – the natural pigment responsible for skin colour. Its development is usually not caused by a single factor, but rather by a combination of several contributing factors.

One of the most common contributing factors is sun exposure, as ultraviolet rays stimulate melanin production and can make existing pigmentation darker and more visible. Even brief sun exposure without adequate protection can be enough to trigger pigmentation.

Hormonal changes also play an important role. Pregnancy, the use of hormonal contraceptives, or hormone replacement therapy can trigger the development of melasma, which is why the condition is more commonly seen in women.

Many people also have a genetic predisposition to melasma. If there is a family history of the condition, the likelihood of developing it is higher.

Additional factors that may worsen the condition include heat, infrared radiation, certain cosmetic products or medications, as well as skin inflammation or irritation, which can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

It is important to understand that melasma is a chronic condition with periods of improvement and recurrence. Without appropriate skincare and sun protection, pigmentation can often reappear or become more pronounced, particularly during months with increased sun exposure.

At Diyana Aesthetic Clinic, we take an individualized approach to every skin type

We believe that melasma cannot be effectively managed with a single treatment, but requires a carefully planned and consistent approach. That is why we begin by assessing the type and depth of pigmentation, the condition of the skin, and the factors contributing to its persistence.
We then create a personalised treatment plan that combines innovative technologies, proven medical procedures, and appropriate home skincare. Our goal is to gradually reduce the appearance of pigmentation, even out skin tone, and minimise the risk of recurrence while maintaining the health and overall quality of the skin.

Appropriate Solutions

Lumecca IPL
IPL is one of the most effective technologies for treating superficial pigmentation. The light energy selectively targets accumulated melanin, gradually reducing the appearance of pigmentation and helping to even out skin tone.
Chemical peeling
Controlled exfoliation removes the superficial layers of the skin, stimulates cellular renewal, and helps gradually reduce the appearance of pigmentation while improving skin texture and radiance.
HydraFacial
HydraFacial почиства кожата в дълбочина, осигурява интензивна хидратация и доставя активни съставки, насочени към намаляване на пигментацията и възстановяване на сияйния и равномерен тен.
Mesotherapy
By delivering carefully selected active ingredients directly into the skin, mesotherapy supports regeneration, improves overall skin quality, and complements the effects of other treatments aimed at reducing pigmentation.
Lumecca IPL + HydraFacial
A combination that simultaneously reduces visible pigmentation and revitalises the skin. Lumecca IPL targets accumulated melanin, while HydraFacial provides deep hydration and delivers active ingredients that support skin recovery and help even out skin tone.
Lumecca IPL + Mesotherapy
A suitable treatment for more persistent melasma. Lumecca IPL targets pigmentation, while mesotherapy delivers depigmenting and antioxidant active ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin, supporting regeneration and helping to reduce the risk of pigmentation recurrence.
Chemical Peel + HydraFacial
A combination designed to renew and brighten the skin. The chemical peel stimulates cellular renewal and gradually reduces the appearance of pigmentation, while HydraFacial restores hydration and helps strengthen the skin barrier following the treatment.
Chemical Peel + Mesotherapy
An ideal treatment for improving overall skin quality and achieving faster reduction of pigmentation. Following exfoliation, the active ingredients delivered through mesotherapy penetrate more effectively, helping to even out skin tone and support skin regeneration.
Individualised Treatment Plan
Depending on the type, depth, and duration of melasma, we create an individualised treatment plan designed to achieve optimal and long-lasting results.
